A Manchester native, I first worked in online and radio at the BBC on Oxford Road, before completing my National Council for the Training of Journlism (NCTJ) Diploma in print journalism with News Associates.
In my first television journalism job I was thrust undercover for the BBC’s Panorama programme to investigate racism in the UK. For this I won Young Journalist of the Year in 2010, from the Royal Television Society (RTS), which is the UK’s most prestigious broadcast journalism awards body.
A decade and many documentaries later, I produced and directed two films investigating The Secret History of The Troubles for BBC Spotlight, one of which won the team an RTS, for Current Affairs Documentary of the Year (2020).
Although I specialise in, and have a passion for investigative and current affairs documentaries, I am a versatile script writer with many strings to my broadcasting bow, including audio.
I have just returned from a year long Knight Wallace Journalism Fellowship at the University of Michigan. During this period of intense personal and professional development, 18 specially selected journalists from around the world connect with senior reporters and correspondents at the top of their field, benefited from the knowledge and experience of countless experts in various fields, and fully immersed myself in American culture and politics.
I am based in London.
